National Geographic, known for its innovation in new media, has created numerous immersive virtual reality experiences, 360 degree videos, and its own “Space Projection Helmets” for the show One Strange Rock. The network has now released its first immersive experience for the Apple Vision Pro: a Disney+ environment set in Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park, allowing users to watch The Avengers in 3D surrounded by the park’s natural beauty. While not as extreme as other VR adventures, this shows Nat Geo’s commitment to the Vision Pro, which has lacked immersive content. Perhaps in the future, we could see a National Geographic VR experience tailored for the Vision Pro, utilizing existing projects or the unique helmet projection view from One Strange Rock.
