The Pixel Screenshots app uses AI to scour the screengrabs I can’t remember why I saved

About 50 percent of my photo album is filled with screenshots of random things I find interesting, from Uber routes to Instagram Stories teas to email threads. The chaos of my gallery makes it impossible to locate specific images just by looking at their thumbnails. So, when Google announced the new Pixel Screenshots app at the Made By Google event, I was thrilled. This app, launching alongside the Pixel 9 family, uses Gemini AI to organize and identify images. It offers pre-organized collections, a search function, and AI-generated titles, summaries, and action buttons for each screenshot. You can even ask Google specific questions about your images, and the app will do its best to find relevant information and provide answers. With a focus on AI assistance and information retrieval, the Screenshots app seems like a more streamlined approach compared to other photo apps. Despite potential privacy concerns, Google assures users that its on-device AI model won’t share screenshots beyond backups stored in Google Photos. While the app will initially be exclusive to the Pixel 9 family, older Pixel devices may eventually receive it based on user feedback.
