Apple has temporarily paused the rollout of iPadOS 18 for M4 iPad Pro models, some of the most expensive iPads they sell, due to complaints from users that the update bricked their devices. After acknowledging the issue in a statement to Engadget, Apple stated, “We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices.” The problem was first reported on Reddit, where users shared how their iPads became unusable after updating to the latest version of iPadOS. Some users experienced long wait times for replacements at Apple Stores, with little acknowledgment of the issue from staff. This software bug causing bricked iPads is unusual, as typically devices can be recovered from bad software updates. Owners of M4 iPad Pros will not receive the update until Apple resolves the issue, with no clear timeline for a fix in sight.
