Lynk & Co is one of those young EV brands that sort of seems to live on the periphery. Obviously, it creates sleek looking, tech-blessed, cool electric cars. They all do. However, the brand never seems to be one of the first that comes to mind, and it doesn’t seem to be the one often breaking EV boundaries. But maybe that’s because of the key boundary it does break. It offers plug-in hybrid electric vehicles — not just pure electrics. And it’s been doing that since before it’s cool.

Is it because the brand is more practical? … trying to find a niche? … a test case for its parent company, Geely?

I don’t know what really motivates Lynk & Co leadership, and I guess that’s why it’s not one of the first EV brands that comes to mind. Its mission has never pulled me (or others) in and embedded the brand in my top-level EV consciousness.

But I still do love the vehicle designs, and I do love that it’s doing things in its own way to get more people to drive on electricity. I do wonder if it isn’t all a brilliant move, and if Lynk & Co could end up being much more of an EV market leader.

Well, we’re going to get a sense soon of how well the company is getting its message and its cars out there, and how well it can sell, as “the game-changing Lynk & Co 08 has officially arrived in Europe.” It’s available to buy “across Europe.” You can now book a test drive or buy one here. The €53,000 plug-in hybrid with 200 km (124 miles) of EV range and EV fast charging (both industry firsts in Europe) will be at retail locations you can find here starting next month.

As the company describes it, “Engineered for modern lifestyles, the 08 delivers unmatched flexibility and driving freedom. With a total range of over 1,100 km, DC fast charging (10–80% in just 33 minutes), and next-level digital innovation, it’s the ultimate balance of performance, sustainability, and convenience—with zero compromise.” Is that the pitch that will pull in truly high numbers of buyers — modern lifestyles, flexibility, driving freedom?

Oh, also, it’s high tech and luxurious. “The 08 balances cutting-edge technology and advanced safety with elegant design in beautiful and functional harmony. From superior comfort, to the massage seats, to the rich and immersive sound system, every detail creates an environment you won’t want to leave.

“The 08’s groundbreaking plug-in hybrid technology offers exceptional fuel efficiency. Its electric range and intelligent driving system adapt to driver behavior, traffic, and weather conditions, maximizing performance and efficiency to make every drive smarter.

“For the 08, every line serves a purpose. Every form has a function. The sculpted sides, frameless windows, and the aerodynamic form enhance both style and efficiency. A tinted panoramic sunroof with power-operated sunblinds and precision matrix LED headlights complete the look.

“Safety is at the core of every Lynk & Co vehicle. The 08 is no exception. This robust SUV is equipped with the ADAS suite, ensuring total confidence on the road. Its matrix LED headlights automatically adjust to prevent glare for oncoming drivers, and the 360 camera enhances overall awareness.

“The 08 is made for those who crave more. Step inside and experience how it delivers on every promise and redefines comfort. With a spacious interior and premium features, the 08 is designed for limitless journeys without compromise.”

It’s not a bad pitch. It’s why Lynk & Co always tingles the brain a bit, always offers promise, and lives on the edge. Could it be a big deal? Or is it a step too far from both the old world and the new? Time will tell.

But the design is really top notch.
