Google’s Pixel Fold, the company’s first phone with a flexible display, was launched last year, and now we are anticipating the release of its successor, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold at the upcoming Made By Google event. As I reflect on my experience using the original Pixel Fold as my daily driver for a year, I appreciate its unique design, class-leading cameras, and great displays. The phone’s widescreen setup may cause issues with certain apps, but it enhances the movie-watching experience and allows for a built-in selfie camera. Despite its bulky rear camera module, the Pixel Fold’s camera quality exceeds that of Samsung’s Z Fold line. In terms of durability, the Pixel Fold has held up well despite scuffs, scratches, and a small crack in the exterior display. Repairs for the exterior display are available and comparable in cost to traditional handset repairs. The main display remains in pristine condition, and the device has demonstrated impressive durability through various tests, including being dropped in sand. Google’s attention to detail and improvements in durability show promise for the future of the brand’s foldable phones. Overall, the Pixel Fold has exceeded expectations in terms of durability and performance, despite minor design quirks.
