Streaming provider Roku is set to launch a new free sports channel on August 12, called the Roku Sports Channel, featuring both owned and licensed content without the need for a subscription. The channel will offer a wide range of programming, including live Major League Baseball games, Formula E car races, ‘The Rich Eisen Show,’ ‘GMFB: Overtime,’ classic boxing matches from Top Rank, combat sports from Swerve Sports, and poker content from PokerGO. Other streaming services like ESPN+ and Max offer sports content for a fee, while an upcoming service called Venu is expected to have a high price tag. Roku’s decision to offer free, ad-supported sports content could set them apart in the streaming television market.
